Christian Dior was born in France on January 21st, 1905, and was a man well-known for his inspiriation. To make money he used to trade his fashion sketches at ten cents each. He opened a small art gallery in 1928 from the capital he received from his father. However owing to the family's financial misfortune he was required to close his gallery and worked along side Robert Piguet who soon after joined the fashion house where he and Pierre Balmain had been the principal designers. In 1945 he went into production for himself, backed by Marcel Boussac, the cotton-fabric magnate. He opened his own fashion house in 1946 and presented his first collection by the name "Corolle" which popularly gained the name New Look. Famous for the sensual appearance given to his clothes, he was a master at producing shapes and silhouettes. He died on October 23rd, 1957.

After his initial design, which had already ensured his position in the worldwide forum of fashion, his subsequent concepts also made a huge impact on the ramp. The H-line in 1954 and the A-line in 1955 were to become as admired as the original one and people began to look upto him as a designer of inspiration. The enterprise expanded not only in terms of stores but also ventured into additional forums. Upon his decease his company was managed by his grand daughter who made the company attain new heights.
